Carolina and I first met two years ago, through a mutual friend, Haru. I had asked him on a whim if he knew of any Spanish girls where he studied Engrish, he instantly said "yes, and she's pretty too"....
It all started one spring evening at 'The Rex Jazz Bar' in Toronto. Haru introduced me to Carolina, and the sparks immediately went flying. The chemistry between us was evident almost immediately, but I thought then as I do now, that she is WAY out of my league. That being the case, I did what any shy-guy would do. What I did was make sure I made up whatever excuse I could to see her. We went out as just friends, but I made sure she knew I liked her... short of saying "Hey, I really like you!"
Sadly, summer came and went, and nothing happened... I should've just told her SOMETHING! A few months past, and I received a postcard from her. We started to write emails, and eventually we started to talk via Messenger again and continued where we left off last summer. As far as I was concerned, she just still wanted to be platonic friends, it was good enough for me just to have her back in my life.
Just as I was about to give up on love she came calling one eventful evening. She and her friend showed up late for my birthday at Devils Martini. They couldn't get in, so I called and told her not to worry, it wasn't really my exact birth date anyhow. Regardless, she and her friend stood in line for 2 hours to get into a club for my unofficial birthday party. I couldn't figure out why she didn't just go home. She eventually made it in, and that totally made my night because she was so excited to see me. A week or so later, she somehow convinced her friends to go camping with MY friends... I couldn't figure out why they wanted to come up to Sudbury in the first place. To my benefit, everything became crystal clear that warm summer evening... I finally figured things out when she said to me, "Hey, I really like you!" We started to date shortly after. She tells me these days, I should have just made a move.
After an amazing summer, her studies began to wind down, and work for me, began to pick up. Near the end of Fall, I started to ease my visits to Toronto as she started to increase her visits to Sudbury. Eventually, she just moved in with my family hahaha. To my delightful surprise, my parents loved having her around. Even their friends (yes, my parents have friends in Sudbury) adore her. She and I lived together for a couple of weeks until the Christmas break when she went home for the holidays. When she got back, she was crazy enough to come back up to Sudbury for another month!
We spent that January planning my month-long vacation to Mexico (actually, she did all of the work). At the end of my contract (for Dex Hamilton production), Carolina and I stayed for a couple of weeks at her place in Toronto. We learned how to live without my mom's fantastic cooking, but lucky for me, Carolina was no slouch on in the kitchen either —her Enchilada's are to die for!
I won't talk about Mexico too much since I posted enough photos to give you an idea of what it was like for me.What DID happen in Mexico was we started to talk a lot more about marriage, we have been for a few months now, and realized how attached we've become to each other. I heard a priest say "marriage does not start in the sanctity of the church, it begins when two people fall in love for the first time". I knew that I love her... I knew before I went to Mexico. I just found out that I didn't want to leave without her again.
